Thiocyanate ELISA Test Kit
Overview
REAGEN INC is pleased to announce the official launch of the REAGEN Thiocyanate ELISA Test Kit (Cat. No. RNF91019), a highly sensitive and reliable in vitro diagnostic tool specifically designed for the quantitative detection of thiocyanate adulteration in raw milk, pasteurized milk, skim milk, and serum samples.
Thiocyanate is increasingly used as an adulterant in dairy products to artificially extend shelf life by inhibiting microbial growth. The presence of thiocyanate beyond safe thresholds poses significant public health risks and violates food safety regulations in many countries. The REAGEN Thiocyanate ELISA Test Kit provides food safety laboratories, dairy processors, regulatory agencies, and clinical researchers with a fast, field-proven solution to monitor and enforce thiocyanate compliance.
Key Performance Highlights
Serum Recovery | 90–120% | Outstanding accuracy across the entire working range — meets the most stringent QC standards |
Detection Limit | 5 ppm | Detects thiocyanate as low as 5 mg/kg in raw milk and serum samples |
Throughput | 96 Wells | Accommodates 42 samples in duplicate per kit run (12 standard wells) |
Read Time | < 5 min | Rapid colorimetric readout at 450 nm — results within the same working session |
Shelf Life | 12 Months | Stable at 2–8°C; no cold-chain complexity during normal laboratory storage |
Spotlight: 90–120% Serum Recovery Rate
The serum recovery rate is the gold-standard metric for evaluating the accuracy and reliability of any quantitative immunoassay. A recovery rate between 90% and 120% demonstrates that the kit consistently measures exactly what is present in the sample — with minimal matrix interference and negligible systematic bias.
Recovery Range | Interpretation |
90% – 120% ✅ | Excellent accuracy. Minimal matrix effect. Results can be reported directly with high confidence. Meets AOAC, FDA, and ISO 17511 acceptance criteria for in vitro quantitative methods. |
75% – 89% ⚠️ | Marginal. Possible matrix interference. Results should be confirmed with orthogonal method. Not recommended for regulatory submissions without dilution optimization. |
< 75% or > 120% ❌ | Unacceptable. Significant matrix bias. Method requires revalidation. REAGEN Thiocyanate Kit consistently avoids this zone. |
The REAGEN Thiocyanate Kit achieves 90–120% recovery in serum by employing a precision protein precipitation step with Reagent A, followed by optimized sample dilution (dilution factor = 2). This approach effectively removes interfering proteins and lipids that would otherwise skew absorbance readings, ensuring that the measured thiocyanate signal accurately reflects the true concentration in the original sample.
This performance is consistent across all supported matrices: raw milk, pasteurized milk, skim milk, and serum — making the kit uniquely suited for multi-matrix testing in a single laboratory workflow.
